Covered commodities

Covered commodities are crops eligible for the Direct and Counter-cyclical Program (DCP) under commodity program provisions under the 2002 farm bill (P.L. 101-171, Sec. 1101-1108). These are wheat, corn, grain sorghum, barley, oats, upland cotton, rice, soybeans, and other oilseeds. Peanuts are under the same payments scheme but are not included in the phrase “covered commodities.” Other commodities mandated to receive price support in the 2002 farm bill include extra long staple cotton, wool, mohair, dry peas, lentils, small chickpeas, peanuts, sugar, and milk.
